Through an exclusive agreement with BayGenomics, the NIH/NCRR-sponsored Mutant Mouse Regional Resource Centers (MMRRC) distribute BayGenomics ES cell clones to interested investigators. In addition, the MMRRC can assist you by deriving embryos and/or live mice from these cells upon request. Further assistance, including genetic screening, multi-tier phenotyping, barrier housing, and colony management services, is also available from the MMRRC at UC Davis.
Important notice: The vast majority of BayGenomics cell lines have been correctly identified, as judged by repeat DNA sequencing (i.e., repeat determination of the DNA sequence tag when the ES cell clone is requested). However, we have definitely encountered incorrectly identified ES cell clones in our library, either because of human error or because a thawed ES cell line gets overgrown by a contaminating ES cell line. When ordering an ES cell line, we strongly recommend that you ask BayGenomics to verify the identity of the ES cell line by repeat DNA sequencing. This costs a little extra money, but it is well worth the cost in the context of a mouse knockout project. We also recommend that the recipient of the ES cell line re-verify the identity of the ES cell line by RT-PCR and/or Southern blot analysis.
